Have you ever memorized a verse from the Bible? How about more than one?
How do you learn best?
Are you a kinesthetic (touch and manipulation) learner?
Are you an auditory (listening and talking) learner?
Maybe you are a visual learner?
These are important questions to ask about yourself and about your child's learning strengths and weaknesses. As a mother of a child with a learning disability, I can tell you its very valuable to learn HOW your child learns and use this information to help them succeed in learning. I've been a teacher for many years and I like to set learners up for success, it helps them to learn to love learning!
Alright now, back to my first thought and question: Have you ever memorized a verse from the Bible?
If the answer is yes or no, I hope this blog entry will leave you wanting to try again and again to draw closer to God through His holy word the Bible.
In Awana we teach the scripture and practice with manipulatives. I was just designing and making new materials for this purpose and wanted to offer one of them to you for FREE. Outside of my office (the room next to the nursery, at our Marietta campus at Legacy Church) you will see wooden boxes with papers. This worksheet is in there and FREE for you to take home.
Sticky Faith is not a new concept, however Camp S'mores is. Don't know about Sticky Faith? Check out the book.
Pastor Tammy Nielson had a vision for parents and kiddos in grades 3-5. Her goal was to expose them to an overnight retreat with their guardian in hopes that her faith would become "sticky." Of course, there's nothing more sticky than a freshly made s'more, right?! This was the inspiration for Camp S'mores. We have had two consecutive years of success with this overnight retreat. The camp agenda focuses around earning "badges" for your camp journal, through experiences that are provided.
Passport to Purity
I am the mother of two young girls actually they are young women, currently 13 and 16 years old now. I have committed my life to preparing them for all the different stages they will go through. I taught them how to call home, self defense, anti-bullying, teamwork, phone courtesy, and on and on and on. I also have taught them to love themselves, respect themselves and honor themselves. I also have had MANY discussions about sex, yep sex. None of these discussions went poorly and I'm so glad that I had them when I did. The best sex talk I ever had was on our "Passport to Purity" weekend. I was really excited and pleased when Pastor Tammy recommended this material to myself and my husband. I jumped in with both feet and never looked back.I highly recommend you check this life changing material out for your pre-teen boy or girl.
Note from the publisher:
A life-changing getaway with your preteen. Your child begins the journey into adolescence in a world of sexting, bullying, online stalking and moral defiance. Innocence is under attack, and you cannot win the battle with a single awkward talk or a strict set of rules. The primary defense for your child is a strong relationship with you and with God.
FamilyLife has developed Passport2Purity® (P2P) to assist you in building heart-to-heart communication with your preteen while laying a foundation of purity that will prepare them for the turbulent years ahead. Through the shared listening experience, object lessons and guided conversations of a P2P weekend getaway, you can set your son or daughter on a journey of moral integrity—and strengthen the bond between you.
Passport2Purity® is designed to be used by a mother and daughter or a father and son when the child is a preteen. It is suggested that the materials be completed over a weekend away from home, as the child may be more open to discussing the topics away from his or her normal environment. If this isn’t possible, the material can be completed over a period of four or five weeks.
I hear frequently from other parents, "I don't have a clue on how to handle this stage?"
Well now we DO! Parent Cue is published by Orange and is a FREE App on Apple or Android devices. Visit the "Family Resources" to download yours today.
It's such a wonderful tool in helping me be the parent I want to be. From the time our children are born until the time they graduate we have only 936 weeks to be in their everyday lives. Let's make the best of this time by being intentional with our conversations, prayers, requests and redirections. Parent Cue will send you "cues" of ideas things to say, things to do, and things to think about. Every Cue fits with your child's developmental phase. I use these Cues weekly to connect with my girls, I hope you find it useful too!
The three wise men traveled a long journey to visit a baby that they heard was a king. The king that was promised to the world as a Savior. This journey wasn't just a spur of the moment event. It was planned and thoughtfully prepared for. Gifts were packed, words were spoken and then preparations were made. We are like the wisemen when we allow our hearts to begin the preparation for the day of Christmas. This season of preparation is called Advent.
The "GRAND" element was intentional. Not only is this journey going to be grand, this material was designed for a "grand"person. A "grand" person is a grandmother, grandfather, grand mentor, or a person of influence in a child's life. ARE you GRAND? Do you know a Grand person who would partner in an Advent journey for a child?
At Legacy Church we kicked off the Grand Journey idea and had over 40 grands committing to this experience. The feedback was overwhelming! Kits were prepared for children ages 1-21 and sent via mail to states all over the USA. What a wonderful response.
Advent begins 25 days before Christmas day and is such a wonderful way to celebrate Jesus' birth! Purchase the Grand Journey Kit here. We will ship it to the grand person. Everything they need to continue this fun and interactive study is in the kit.
We pray that this material is a blessing to you and the recipient.
"What if?" This is a phrase Pastor Tammy Nielson and I find ourselves saying quite often when working together here at Legacy Church. What if families knew how to chase God's heart? What if kids knew His holy word by heart? What if parents had resources, renewal and inspiration to bring God home from church? What if ALL ages in the church could be in a D6 household?
Well, it's way overdue, but better late than never. Drum roll please...Introducing a journal of sorts to help ministers, mentors, parents, and my peeps answer their WHAT IF questions. I will share resources, ideas, inspirations, plans, dreams, and much more.
What if, this caught fire?
What if, it helped bring someone to God?
What if, it fills the gap?
My prayer is that it has, it is, and it will be.
God be with you, Cindi Williams
