PRAYER VIGIL 2020

Thank you for your willingness to pray. We are facing significant challenges as a church and nation. We want to be the people God would have us be and respond appropriately.
One of the benefits of turmoil is it drives us to our knees. In that way, even trouble can be considered a blessing.
As you consider these matters in prayer we encourage you to be deliberate, considering carefully the part you can play in being a part of the solution, listening for His direction in your life.
May God richly bless you as you seek His Face.

Here is a suggested format for prayer if needed:

ACTS
Adoration.
Contrition.
Thankfulness
Supplication

ADORATION
"Lord, Thank You for loving us.”

Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
"Lord, thank You for loving us so much You gave Your only begotten Son.
Because of this extreme love it is evident You want what is best for us.
O, Lord, show us the way.
We love you, Lord".

(Pause and ask that you might feel the majesty and presence of Almighty God)
Psalm 46:10:  Be still and know that I am God.

CONTRITION
Isaiah 6:5b I am a man of unclean lips.

We are less than perfect. We must acknowledge this in the presence of a perfect God.
Take this opportunity to ask the Lord to forgive you for your imperfections. Ask him to reveal imperfect ways in you and repent.
If there are areas in your life in which you know you are not doing right, ask for forgiveness and with His help the ability to turn from any wicked way.
Also, ask Him to reveal things to you that are not pleasing to Him and repent.

Sins of omission: ask the Lord to reveal to you things you should be doing but are not. Ask for forgiveness and the will to do those things.
Pause and ask the Spirit of God to speak to you. 1 Kings 19:12-13:  And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

THANKFULNESS
We have so many things for which we can be thankful.
Here are some suggested areas of thankfulness:
1) For Him, The God of the universe who has our best interest at heart
2) For His Son, The Savior of the world
3) The Holy Spirit, whom The Savior sent to be our counselor, friend and guide
4) The Church, God's chosen vessel to carry out His will on earth
5) For the saints who have gone before and whose legacy is being lived through us
6) For family,  those whom have been a positive influence on us; our children and grandchildren with whom we've been entrusted (our legacy) to be a help and support throughout life
7) For friends, people with whom we've been entrusted to influence for Jesus and encourage
8) The necessities of life
9) Provision
10) Protection
11) This nation, founded on the principle of religious freedom

These are just a few. Pause here and ask the Lord to impress on you the things for which you should be thankful. Consider the blessings in your life as they are many.

If we can't be thankful for what we have, why should the Lord do more for us?

Psalm 9:1:  I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of Your wonderful deeds.

SUPPLICATION
We serve a God who wants to help us in our times of need. Many are concerned about our nation, our families, and our church. To that end let us pray Matthew 6:9-10: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven and Luke 22:42b:  Lord, not my will but Thine be done.
Lord, please help our nation in this time of great polarization. Show me what I can do.
Lord, please help my family as we try to navigate covid-19, civil unrest, and uncertain economic times.
Please be with our church as we face these difficult times. Supply our needs according to your riches in glory. You are the Lord of abundance. Please supply what we need to pay our pastors, support our missionaries, maintain our facilities, pay utilities, and perform any and all of our duties as it relates to serving you. Lord, please show us the way.
Thank You for Your peace.

AMEN
